I'm taking a Shakespeare class from a fella named Brugger, Eng 314 from Scott Samuelson, and Eng 326 (editing) from a Vaun L. Waddell. Does anyone know anything about these teachers/classes?

I've never had Brugger or Waddell, but I had Samuelson for 314, and I thought he was GREAT! Actually, that's where I first met EmPo. He's kind of tough, but you'll learn a lot of valuable things about writing.

Samuelson? I didn't like him that much, but only in protest against every other person in the class loving him.
Brugger I have right now. He tells great stories, is pretty easy, will make you film your own version of a Shakespeare scene, and likes to be merciful to students. He just cut our 20 page end-of-semester paper down to...I won't tell you how much to protect his name. (I was secretly disappointed at the cutting, and I thought I was the only nerd until some guy raised his hand and asked if he could write as much as he wanted to.)
Waddell, a strange, squat little man. A lot of people don't like him, mostly for his obtuse and sometimes offensive personality, but I learned so much in his extremely hard Shakespeare class that it made me want to be an English major.
Yes, as you can tell, I have been going to school here for much too long. I know way too much about the English teachers here, including but not limited to the names of their children and their hobbies. (Did you know Brother Keller likes to knit?)
Hope this helps.
And just kidding about Keller.

Film a Shakespeare scene? Thanks but no thanks. I'll be honest, sometimes I get irritated when teachers try to teach things "creatively," or whatever. Just give it to me straight, doctor. I dunno, maybe I video would turn out being cool, but I think I'd probably just get stressed out about it and not enjoy and not learn much from it. I had the same project my sophomore year of highschool. I could see Keller knitting, even if you are kidding.

I can't believe Leanna used the word "things." But many feel as she does about Sam. I agree with Anona, except for her opinion of Wad. When Sam is on, he's really on, but when's he's not, he tends to annoy; however, he knows his stuff. Why not pick his brain? Brug is a people pleaser. And Anona is the only female student I've ever heard who even remotely has liked Wad. He used to work over here. Hard man--married four or five times, likes power. Can you get Moen for Shakespeare? Or one of the newer teachers for 326? A.Papworth is, I've heard, very good with tech writing. But, then, I also know much more than I want to know about profs here. Anon

Ha ha OK I guess I blew the Anon with my picture attached to the entry. But, at this stage you do need profs you like; later, in grad school, it won't matter. You just want the knowledge, and their personalities, for some reason, don't get in the way very much. But they do now, so pick well. Isn't there a site you can log in to where students have rated BYU-I profs? There used to be, though sometimes only the angry and irritated would fill out the evaluations. Leanna, Anona, what is that site?

Yeah, I've been looking at a site like that, but I only put so much stock in the ratings. What about Judy Steiner for Brit Lit 332? Julie, where's your opinion, pipe up.

Okay, at risk of making enemies and being the "odd one out" I liked Samuelson. I had him for creative non-fiction, and although we had some strange assignments, I learned. Now, I'm not going to credit anything to this class for what I gained in writing. That all goes to the WC and to Sis. Morgan. But, as Sis. Morgan says, I was able to "pick brains" and I learned. Which is something that cannot be said for other professors I've had at BYU-Idaho. Some of the assignments I initially felt to be demeaning, but after really trying them I realized I could stretch myself beyond what I was currently writing. Basically, I was exposed to other styles (which I know Sis. Morgan would like to do in seminar, but due to lack of time...) and was able to learn from great authors. So, if it were me, I'd go with Sam.

As far Brugger and Waddell, not being an English major, I didn't have them. But I'd go with the opinions of S. and A.

By the way, Sis. Morgan, I have to create a 30 page portfolio of creative non-fiction to apply to grad school. Feel like doing some friendly review/editing?

Anytime, Julie. What schools are you looking at? Chan. who else teaches Brit Lit.? Judy is one of my best friends, but this semester will be here first time out for Brit Lit. It's usually Brugger's domain, but Karen likes to shake things up a bit. But what about newer people? d'Evengnee? Hammond? What classes are Bennion and Babcock teaching? Both are good teachers, especially Bennion.

Again I have to agree with Dan. I've know Brugger for a long time, and he's always been a pussy willow. Nice guy, though. Samuelson will be worth it. My advice is to stay away from W like the aids virus.
Did I just hear Dan complain, under Andrea's chocolate post that he wanted a candy bar more than flowers from Chagall? Oh, shame. Though it's good to see them both post here for a change. By the way, who is planning our Christmas party? And if we decide to have it on campus because of time issues, can we have it somewhere other than 293? Or is everyone leaving for Thanksgiving?

Did Chris and Afton just abandon us again?
Latest gossip I thought you'd like to know--Lance believes Leanna doesn't have time for him and is unkind when she edits his papers. so he comes into us because we appreciate him more. (Underneath of course is his basic fear that Leanna loves her cat more than she loves him. Plus, did you know that Leanna once named a male cat "Princess"? I told her I myself what to be there to see the meeting between her and this poor humiliated cat in heaven because I think she's going to have the crap kicked out of her.

Oh, when are you having your Christmas party? I wish I could come. Although, I'm probably pretty much out of it now, except for the blog. I am so thankful for this blog, you have no idea. It's right up there at the top of the "thankful" list for Thanksgiving.

I am looking into an MFA program in Creative Non-fiction at Penn State (I have a zillion in one chance of getting in, but hey, I have to try) and an English composition program at a university called Millersville. We'll see what happens.

Hey, maybe you guys should have your Christmas party in Indiana. Here are three good reasons: Dan Quayle; Axel Rose; Chandler Warnick. All from Indiana. Think about it.

Good point, Chandler. We'll just do another road trip. I'll get the Star Crunches this time.
