I figured I'd answer Sis. Morgan's quips and questions in my own post. Is that allowed? Can I reply in anything other than a "reply"?

Tanner's phone# is (208) 351-9241, and his e-mail is etwarnick@gmail.com. That's for you to get ahold of him, Sis. Morgan, but if any gals are headed toward Mesa, he's single and handsome and writes catchy-if-sometimes-sappy love songs on his guitar (but usually only after you break up). And I don't know where Princess Melissa is, but Tanner is done pining, he's even dating. Distance and a final spat of two-timing did it, I think.

Anona, good luck on the GRE. I'm sure you'll do well. By-the-way, what are you going to grad school for?

I will be getting a job, I become listless when I don't have one. I've never worked retail, I might try that, or there's a moving company I could work for, or maybe another lousy factory job, or maybe something genuinely good will pop up. Who knows, who cares, I slept in 'til eleven today and loved it.

To celebrate both keeping my job for two months as well as quitting, I'm buying myself a nice fountain pen. Or new spark-plugs, I haven't quite decided which. Okay, fine, I'm getting the pen, but the spark-plugs were a serious consideration, and they make me sound manly and competent by indicating that I know my way around cars, which is a lie.

Oh! You make me laugh. Really laugh. I'm still at work because blah blah and I'm so tired I can't remember where my car is. Then I read your e-mail, and I spit my water all over the computer screen. Plus, I have to go to the restroom, but I can hear people out there, and I have one brown sock on and one black, and I think somewhere between sorting scribblers and writing nasty notes to assistants (around 5 am), I left my boots by the green chair. So, I guess I'm stuck in here until Monday. Spark plugs or a fountain pen, Oh really, that was really good, Chan. I actually think I'll read it one more time, then I can go face my last four piles of wood. Or maybe I'll just go watch the ducks swim in circles around the blue streaks in the river. You have a good day. Go work at Burger King. I bet that'd be interesting--for a couple weeks anyway. Glad to hear about Tanner. Tell him to e-mail (after all, Chan, I'm not the one who needs the recommend, Friend.)

Really, Sister Morgan, I don't think emails at 5 in the morning are a super idea. But you know we all love you even if you're grumpy, right? Do you think it's true that women in positions of power can be respected or liked, but not both? I read an interesting article on this the other day.
Chandler, women are not super impressed by men installing spark plugs. (And it's hard--I've tried. And maybe expensive. I think you need special tools.) A nifty fountain pen, on the other hand...perhaps a pocket protector to go along with it? I'm going to Grad school for English, but I'll be honest with you, my chances of actually going are about 50-50.

50/50? Are those your chances of getting in, or just your chances of going because circumtances may prevent it? I hope you are able to go. I've been thinking of going to grad school for comparative literature, specifically Chinese/English literature. We'll see.

Sis. Morgan, what are your thoughts on a comparative literature degree?

My thoughts right now are that you two both really need to get a comedy act and go on the road. Actually, I think you make me laugh the most when you talk together because I'm watching a dry sort of pure insanity masked by intelligence with a capital "I." A controlled, tongue-in-cheek madness. Hmmm I'll have to explore that one a little further.
OK, Anona, nope, I'm not expecting you to "like" me when I'm grumpy. I can't even stand me. I detest grumpy whiny people. I'm just asking for some . . hmmmm I'll have to think about that after I eat. And the second question? Geez, I want to read this article. I don't know. I've never been in a position where I had to deal with a "woman in a position of power"--except for a brief period with my mother when I was very young, which didn't last long at all. And, I've never thought of myself in "a position of power," though now that you bring it up, it sounds kind of like a cool thing to try on. It sounds cool. But it's not me now. You're so deluded. Heck, when I'm yelling, it's not from a position of power, it's because I'm ill or sleep deprived or going-down-in-another-stress-pool, and I notice no one working much but a certain few--and it's always you few. Then my normally calm and peaceful head (no laughing) explodes and I think a rush of irrational thoughts that sound something like HEY! You with the young strong body, flirting with the 15 yr old who thinks she's 20, who still has his memory left in tact while I myself will probably buy my coffin before nightfall, can you see all this work that still needs done? Hello? It'll take your strong and healthy body, which I won't get again until the resurrection, only 30 stupid seconds to do what it takes me one hour to do, and you dare ask me again what it was I told you to do three times yesterday? Blah Blah.Blah.
See, I don't quite think we can call this a woman in a position of power. I think what we have here on even the best days is a group of pure adolescents--with me in the center group--who can't seem to work efficiently because of who knows what . . . But, I really like that "woman in power" thing. I think it would be advantageous to all of us if I tried to put that coat on. It lends a certain . . . what? Dignity. Grace. Poise and control--hmmmm I think we might as well bag this idea right here and now. After all I'm still wearing the wrong color of socks.
Chan. That's a great idea. I don't know why I keep forgetting your China experience. It's a (to borrow Anona's word) powerful degree. Very respected. And, really, let's face it--much better than Burger King. Have you searched out the schools who have the best programs in that area? I hope they're all by wherever Anona lives because she darn well better go get her degree. Why not? The GRE is the worst of it. Everything else is down hill from here--a breathless sail through intelligentsia.

So I've been trying to study for the GRE as well and I can't get myself to do it! It is such a stupid standardized test that doesn't actually measure anything worthwhile, only your innate ability to do well on a standardized test. Ugh. I hate it. Sometimes I want to send ETS a letter full mean and spiteful things and then I realize that I am out of stamps. Oh well. I have to take the GRE on November 26th, Anona, and I share your indigestion.

E. Anona said...

Yay! A fellow GRE taker! I too take the standardized test on the 26? 25? and am rather sick of the glorified ACT. Let's have a pity party.

Julie M said...

Can we have chocolate and candy-cane ice cream at our pity-party?

Sara said...

Can I come too? (since dang it, I'm taking the darn thing too)

Sara said...

Are we still studying together, E? (as in E. Anona)

Okay, I'm probably going to feel really bad after this, but, who is sarachel? I'm sorry if you are not someone new at the Center and that you turn out to be someone that I've known all along. If you are someone new, it's nice to meet you.

It's Sarah Lee, Jewels. Sarah Shawcroft. She's grown up. Valuable member of the WC now. (Does she spell her name with an "h"? Sarah, do you spell your name with an "h"?)

Julie M said...

Sorry Sarah, your blog name threw me off. How's your life? Did you get my thank you card this summer? I wasn't sure if I sent it to the write address.

Sara said...

I did get your thank you card! Sorry I didn't write back...I'm a slacker.

by the way...my name is spelled SARA.
